When it comes to movies, you would be amazed what you can do with very little, especially with digital cameras and LED lights. Now that doesn’t mean half-ass it and try and be as cheap as possible, you should always aim to pay your crew the best you can but you also have to start somewhere.

I have had the privilege of being Cinematographer and, many times, Editor, for projects that have had very little on the crew side, typically involving me bringing all the equipment for camera and lighting. And while I try and fight for at least some kind of small run and gun crew, sometimes it’s just not there. I have learned a lot when it comes to the low budget side of making movies and what equipment I can use to not waste time and still achieve quality images!

So whether it’s working with a traditional crew or just a few people with drive and passion, making movies can be done on all levels.

If you have a project needing a DP or someone to help you produce it, don’t hesitate to reach out. The only thing I ask when it comes to low and ultra low budgets, is make sure you quell your expectations and understand what you do and DO NOT get!
